The paper highlights the organization's philosophy in the ascertaining maximum ownership of community and accentuates the process adopted to collectivize the community before initiating any people-centered activities. This paper narrates the process of community development in Sanjaynagar with the assistance of an external agency, gradual improvement of its physical environment, improvement in awareness and empowerment of the community in general but of the women of the community in particular, experience of women acting as agents of change in the process empowering themselves to negotiate not just the public domain but also the private domain, and role of specific individuals in triggering this local change.
